Tl;dr: When we view exercise as a chore i.e. not fun, we compensate by finding “fun” elsewhere, usually in the form of a doughnut.

Even though I’m constantly griping about the state of the fitness industry, I must mention that things do seem to be improving, especially in regards to how women workout. While there is still much work to be done in dispelling myths of “bulkiness” and “long and lean” muscles, many women seem to be realizing the benefit of lifting heavy things. This piece a brief history of this shift as well as some good ole’ fashion myth busting. Enjoy!

I think Josh Hillis is onto something here. I think a Goldilocks approach to strength training, and fitness in general, can be really beneficial. It’s easy to fall into the trap of linear progression. However, ultimately what is “just right” for you on any given day is not going to be linear. Plus, Josh is one of friendliest, most knowledgeable coaches I’ve ever met so I like hyping his work.
