And this, my friends, is the most important yet oft neglected topic in the fitness industry. What we eat, how we workout, all of that shit is worthless if we don’t follow through, if we can’t make the changes we want to. Knowledge is impractical without implementation. The key to implementation lies in self-determination theory. Self-determination theory tells us how to overcome inner debates to make our actions line up with our priorities. These inner conflicts are the crux of why eating better and/or losing weight is so difficult.
We now have even more evidence that calling someone out on their dietary mistakes is detrimental. This is often how folks ask their friends to help when they go on a diet. This is also what our friends tend to do automatically when we ask them for support in our fat loss.
Now, I’m not a fan of calorie counting. I almost never recommend it for sustainable results. That’s not to say it’s not a valid option for some folks. And if people are into it and it’s working for them, I can’t tell them otherwise. And who knows, maybe some of you reading this like calorie counting. So this one’s for you guys! 🙂
